'CRE de Laval' stands against the sale of a wooded lot to consolidate the public tenure of 'Carré Laval'

CRE de Laval is deeply disappointed by the decision of the municipal council of the City of Laval taken on March 10, 2021 - that is, the endorsement of a dispute settlement allowing the City to acquire a 4339,8 square meters land in the perimeter of the future Carré Laval.

« The ceded land, located at the edge of the Notre-Dame boulevard, represents a piece of the buffer zone that surrounds the exceptional forest ecosystem (EFE) at the center of Armand-Frappier woodland. This EFE, one of the 16 that are recognized by the government of Quebec in Laval, is a forest that is qualified as a ''refuge and rare type'', sheltering an important population of black maple, which is a threatened species in Quebec. Considering that this land is not included in the protection area covered by the M. R. C. L. -8 regulation on woodlands of interest, it is therefore destined to be developed by its new owner », says CRE de Laval's press release (loose translation from original quote).

CRE de Laval is convinced that this dispute settlement was done at the expense of environmental quality as well as of the population's right to a healthy environment, and asks the City to stop sacrificing the wooded lands it owns to development.
