The Conseil régional de l'environnement de Laval will host an event titled “Eco-design and Packaging: Innovating for Tomorrow” on Thursday, January 15, 2026, from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the Grand TIMES Hotel Laval.

Program

The morning will feature two keynote presentations led by experts from Papineau & Co and Éco Entreprises Québec, followed by a panel discussion bringing together businesses and key stakeholders from the agri-food industry—including the Institut de technologie des emballages et du génie alimentaire, Groupe METRO Inc. / Jean Coutu, and Prana Bio—who will share their experiences, challenges, and success stories.

Registration

To register, visit the Chambre de commerce et d'industrie de Laval website.

Target Audience

This event is intended for entrepreneurs, processors, distributors, and institutions seeking to adopt more sustainable packaging practices that align with new regulatory requirements and emerging business opportunities.

Context

In March 2021, Bill 651, which amends the Environment Quality Act (EQA) regarding deposit-return and curbside recycling systems, was passed by the National Assembly of Québec. The Québec Regulation on the Modernization of Deposit-Return and Curbside Recycling Systems came into effect in August 2023. As a result, agri-food businesses are now responsible for managing the packaging they generate once it reaches the end of its useful life. Companies must therefore prioritize eco-design, ensuring that their containers and packaging are compatible with Québec’s new deposit-return and recycling systems.

Financial Support and Event Partners

This event is financially supported by the Fonds d'action québécois pour le développement durable (FAQDD), the Écoemballage+ program and the Quebec government, in partnership with the Chambre de commerce et d’industrie de Laval (CCIL), the City of Laval, and Laval Innov.

About the Écoemballage+ Program

The Écoemballage+ Program provides funding in the form of grants to agri-food businesses seeking support in their eco-design packaging initiatives. It finances concrete measures such as studies, diagnostics, and action plans. The program is an initiative administered by the Québec Sustainable Development Action Fund (FAQDD) and financially supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPAQ).
