With the climatic crisis becoming more and more severe, we can no longer be satisfied with half-measures; the environment must be the top priority during the municipal elections of November 7, 2021. In the context of the Vire au vert initiative, CRE de Laval, Laval en transition and Equiterre jointly signed this open letter (French-written).
« The municipal level is at the core of the solutions to tackle climate related challenges and represents a major actor in the ecological transition. These local governments may therefore promote our well-being and our health by adopting greener policies in terms of urban planning, water and residual material management, public security and economic development.
Besides, it is the most accessible level for citizens. Let's contact candidates and elected officials to rethink our collectivities so that they become safer, healthier, more equal and greener.
(...)
We will make sure that Laval candidates will take the ecological crisis seriously and suggest ambitious solutions to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions and prepare our collectivities to face climate consequences. Candidates can already get inspired by the 68 environmental suggestions of the Vire au vert initiative to develop their election campaigns » (free translation of excerpts from the open letter).
