The rapid development of large urban centers is now placing heavy pressure on sewer systems, which can overflow during periods of heavy rainfall. These wastewater overflows have measurable impacts on streams and rivers, on the activities that can take place there, and on the biodiversity they support.
Fortunately, solutions exist—including at home!
On March 19, Éco-Nature | Parc de la Rivière-des-Mille-Îles will host CRE de Laval, whose team will present the RétenCité project, funded by the Government of Quebec’s Action-Climate Fund. This project promotes the installation of rain gardens on private properties to help support sustainable stormwater management.
The Éco-Nature Conservation Department team will also take this opportunity to present the projects it is leading in this area, offering a fresh perspective on the issues specific to the Rivière des Mille Îles and its unique ecosystem.
This free, one-hour workshop–conference will inform you about the sampling campaigns carried out by Éco-Nature for nearly 25 years in its area of activity, the impacts of poor water quality on wildlife, and the solutions within our reach.
This project is funded by the Government of Quebec’s Action-Climate program.
